Are you willing to help SPCA Nelson continue to take care of animal welfare in our region?
Since 1887 Nelson SPCA has been providing for the animals in our region. Today we rescue, rehome and reunite thousands of animals every year.
Our mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals and to prevent cruelty to animals. We aim to educate people to make them aware that there are alternatives to neglect and abuse of animals. That respect and care for each other, our environment and the animals with which we share that environment will bring a better result for all.
But providing good-quality care and protection for these animals is a costly business, and each year brings us new challenges. To be able to continue this work is vital, but we need your help.
Nelson SPCA does not qualify for assistance from the Lottery Grants Board. Instead, we rely totally upon the good nature and generosity of the public.
Your financial help is needed to ensure that Nelson SPCA will be there in the future. It will be needed…
- Remember Nelson SPCA in your will with a gift for our work in the future.
- Become a financial member of the Society and support our work now.
If you wish to remember Nelson SPCA in your will, there are some important points to note:
Our name is Nelson Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Inc. (We are not RNZSPCA, or Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.)
As our work is so varied, we would be grateful if you could work your bequest along the following lines:
“I, (name), would like to bequeath (amount to Nelson Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Inc for the general purposes of the Society and its work.”
If you wish to be specific about your bequest, please make your intent clear. For example:
“for the care and protection of cats and kittens” or “for desexing initiatives” etc.
If you decide to help Nelson SPCA by remembering the Society in your will, we suggest that you take advice from a lawyer of Public Trust.

Your will prepared at no cost to you?
On the understanding that Nelson SPCA is listed as a beneficiary in your will, we agree to meet reasonable legal costs involved in the preparation of your will.
After you have finalised the terms of your will (we do not need to see a copy), simply arrange for your lawyer to send the account to Nelson SPCA. (A fee exceeding $100.00 will require our prior approval).
When you’ve done all you can for your family, please consider us and the work we do.
It is only with your ongoing support that we can maintain our Centre and provide a sanctuary for all unwanted, injured and abandoned animals that come into our care. All gifts, large and small, do make a difference. Often our supporters have wanted to continue their support past their lifetime and have achieved this by remembering the Nelson SPCA in their Will.
There are several ways in which you can make a gift. Consider these options…
- The simplest is by way of a residue gift. you can nominate that your would like to leave part or all of your estate to the Nelson SPCA.
- Another way is by leaving a nominated percentage or fraction of your estate to Nelson SPCA.
- Or you may prefer to leave a specific gift – an amount of money, real estate, jewellery, shares, bonds or such other gift as you wish to nominate.
