SPCA In Action

What we do

Our mission is to encourage the humane treatment of all animals and to prevent cruelty being inflicted upon them.

Nelson SPCA works to ensure that animals in our region are being well cared for and are in good health. We educate people on how to look after animals properly, and how to treat them with love and respect.

We are here to help animal owners and carers to abide by the Animal Welfare Act 1999.

We are often called on to rescue animals in trouble and to provide medical care, love, and shelter for the animals at the SPCA Nelson animal shelter.

Sometimes we have to be involved with prosecuting people who have deliberately harmed, mistreated or neglected animals in their care. We also work with offenders to prevent re-offending.

The Nelson Region extends from the Whangamoas to the Lewis Pass, and includes Motueka and Golden Bay Branches.
